In celebration of the hit film, “Black Panther” and the more recently released, “Avengers: Infinity War,” we are taking a look at the beard’s place in our pop culture pantheon including, of course, Captain America’s stylish new beard. Actor Chris Evans spoke with Brian Truitt, of USA TODAY about Cap’s new beard in the latest Marvel film:

"I don't think it's in his nature to be too much of a loose cannon, but there's a lack of formality," Evans says. "He's checked all that at the door and he's gone inside himself for a little while, and as a result, he's a little irreverent and maybe even a little dangerous."

That’s right, Mr. Evans. Nothing better than a hardscrabble beard to show off your darker or more dangerous side. That’s no coincidence that our Special Ops soldiers all sport bushy beards and are often referred to as “the beards.” Now, Captain America’s new beard is certainly the talk of the town as of late, but let’s look at some other facial hair sporting superheroes who have lit up the silver screen recently.

Black Panther Played by Chadwick Boseman

Chadwick Boseman has played many iconic roles in his storied career, including Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall. In Marvel’s “Black Panther,” he plays the titular role while sporting a classy and trim chin strap style beard that is thick around the jawline and ends in a classic goatee at the mouth. The “Black Panther” is a diplomat, king of his people, and an international spy all rolled into one and his new twist on a classic beard reflects that perfectly. If you haven’t seen Black Panther yet, do yourself a favor and catch it while it is still in theaters.

Superman from “Justice League” Played by Henry Cavill

Talk about a break from tradition. Superman’s iconic clean shaven look is as much of a product of the nuclear age 1940’s as it is a critique. His is an apt portrayal of the ideal American working class man of the era and that ideal had no room for beards, so it is a very big deal when the caped crusader is shown to be anything less than clean shaven. In fact, there have only been six times in which Superman has officially appeared on screen or on the page with a beard, including the new DC films. We think the bearded look fits him very well and lends weight to his dark and troubled storyline in the new DC Universe. We look forward to more bearded looks in the future!

Aquaman from “Justice League” Played by Jason Momoa

Not to be outdone in the beard department, Aquaman brings it with an epic beard as portrayed by “Game of Thrones” star Jason Momoa in the new “Justice League” film. This ain’t your daddy’s Aquaman. The rebooted oceanic hero is making waves with his new bad boy, hard drinking, demenior and beard! More of a better kept full beard than Superman’s scruff, Aquaman’s beard is royally quaffed to fit his princely stature in the sea kingdom. Not to put too fine a point on it, but Aquaman is going to need some pretty hardy and waterproof beard balm to keep his whiskers from drying out in the salty ocean water. For him, we can only assume that he is using our Better Man Beard balm and oil to keep the royal beard looking sharp. Pick up yours today!
